Magazine Intern: Life and Times

Every person, at least once in their lives dreams of becoming an intern with a Fashion Magazine. I think it is safe to say that I was one of them. I use was because my dream came true, not because of some eyeopening  broke-my-trust-in-the-industry episode.

Well, it was a two-month long internship at the offices of a fairly new but recognized fashion magazine and I chose to intern with the Beauty and Features Section, for no other reason apart from the one where I love beauty products. Even though I was not a part of the Fashion department, I did get to interact with them a lot and it was a whole lot of fun. Their work is pretty tedious, (they should get 50 points for that straight on!) with all the styling and late-night shoots, sourcing and returning (scout the designer haunts for clothes & accessories and give'em back in perfect shape). Once, I was sent to the dry cleaners regarding a shirt, that sure made me appreciate my work. You can't say no when you're an intern, unless you don't give a rat's ass. But in that case why intern anyway?

That aside, I was really glad with my department, excessively satisfied if I may. My superior was an amazing woman who knew what she was doing and made my time there sail past. Considering it's the beauty department, us interns got to enjoy free goodies in the form of nail polishes, lip glosses and other magical treats. All in all I made really good friends, I got to write, and I got to interview celebrities! What's more I saw my name in print for the first time and let me tell you, no other feeling can compete with that. I would urge all you budding writers or publishers to go and intern with a fashion magazine or any other magazine to find your niche.
Why am I writing about this? Oh yeah, I'm on a journey to uncover my calling!
